“Ozu and I create films through hard work, but Shimizu is a genius.” -Kenji Mizoguchi
“I can’t shoot films like Shimizu.” -Yasujiro Ozu
Born the same year as his close friend Yasujiro Ozu, Hiroshi Shimizu (1903-1966) remains one of the forgotten masters of Japanese cinema, praised by contemporaries including Sadao Yamanaka and Kenji Mizoguchi but neglected despite his radical spirit and versatile talent. With over 160 films directed over a 35-year-career that spanned the silent era into the golden age of Japanese cinema, Shimizu is distinguished by his unconventional approach to plotting-one loosely sketched and carefree-and a roaming camera that drifts through the open airs of provincial Japan. Shimizu’s world is suffused with an innate naturalism-one populated by pastorals and country passages-and a lyrical humanism that observes the journeys of children, working women, outcasts and travelers alike.

wow and agrigato your videos helped me a lot
learninh because i have nothing to do in my life ill come back when i finish learning
Call me lazy I dont care but just eliminating the english captioning is a fast way to lose people. Westeners are used to one alphabet so expecting us to learn hirigana when weve barely started learning Japanese with Anglicised translations is expecting people to run way before theyre anywhere near walking. Ive got no way of knowing whether what she says is how im thinking the word is pronounced so I cant progress properly.
Doraemon caused me to learn Japanese and I am going to japan
❤
I cant write it huhu
I cant write it huhu
WTF I just realized that the grammar and pronunciation is literally the same as my native language. Unlike English, I could probably start speaking Japanese within 6 months. English took my whole late childhood and I lived in a native speaking society for a good amount of years. But Japanese feels like I am already living in that society (minus the culture of course...)
全てのレッスンが新鮮です。ありがとう!
英語の勉強にもなります。ナイスなアイデアをありがとう。
Teachers like this are needed in schools and paid a fortune
Why is ''Ha'' (Hiragana) pronounced as ''Wa'' (hiragana) in this video?
Isn't that long list a bit redundant? Aren't Kouta and Hauta just descendants from the Utazawa style? And Zokkyoku is just an old term for Minyo.
Lynch, ingmar and tarkovsky: Wtf are we watching?
